Why Specify a B-Line Series Strut System?

The reasons to choose and use B-Line series strut systems begin with quality and design, but they don’t end there. Not only are these systems made from structural-quality steel that help ensure structural integrity and strength; they come in a wide range of protective finishes with an extensive array of accessories.

Eaton’s B-Line Business is a leading manufacturer and fabricator of steel and aluminum products used in support of equipment for industrial, commercial, utility, and OEM installations. The company is proud of the exacting standards of research, design, engineering, and manufacturing that go into each and every product comprising its strut product line. Customers have access to one of the most complete support systems offered in the industry, including metal framing, cable tray, pipe hangers, slotted angle, and fasteners.

Many of the company's products are listed by Underwriter’s Laboratories, Inc. All of its strut system products are manufactured to meet or exceed Metal Framing Manufacturers Association (MFMA) and other industry standards set for their design and manufacture.

Structural-Quality Steel

Channel profile, finish, and traceability information are stamped inside the channel for identification and easy reference. Material documentation can be provided upon request. Catalog loading charts for strut are based on 25,000 psi design stress, but if the actual strength of the steel in a particular lot can't be verified, the load chart data, or safety factor can't be validated or guaranteed.

Structural-quality steel must meet established chemical and strength requirements. Even as metal strut replaces angle iron and other traditional ASTM A36 structural steel shapes, retaining the integrity of the metal channel system using structural-grade materials remains important.

Broad Range of Protective Finishes & Accessories

Strut systems can find themselves in a wide variety of environments, some of them extreme. When the application is in one of these tough environments, the situation might call for something more than a pre-galvanized, hot dip galvanized or electro-deposited epoxy finish, such as Eaton’s Dura Green finish.

In these conditions, you might want to specify aluminum strut channel, PVC coating or fiberglass, which is available in polyester and vinyl ester resins. The goal is to provide the materials and finishes that best meet the need, no matter how demanding.

Standard Strut Materials

  • Plain steel, ASTM A570 and A611 (Structural Grade)
  • Pre-galvanized steel, ASTM A653 SS (CSA Type II) (Structural Grade)
  • Stainless steel, AISI Type 304
  • Stainless steel, AISI Type 316

Standard Strut Finishes

  • Pre-galvanized, (CSA Type II) ASTM A653 SS G90
  • Hot dip galvanized after fabrication, (CSA Type 1) ASTM A123
  • Dura Green finish, electro-deposited epoxy
  • Dura-Copper finish

Benefits of Dura Green & Dura-Cooper Finishes

Dura-Green and Dura-Cooper epoxy coatings are water borne epoxy coatings applied to our products by a precisely controlled cathodic electro-deposition process. This process is accomplished using a conveyor to transport channel and fittings through several cleaning, phosphatizing and application stages prior to being baked. This custom-designed paint system is used for painting all channels, channel combinations, slotted angle, and fittings.

  • Routine salt spray (fog) testing done to verify the quality of the finish
  • Tests are performed in accordance with ASTM B117; evaluated according to ASTM D1654
  • Tested and UL Listed in accordance with Standard for Surface Metal Raceway and Fittings, UL5 and Standard for Pipe Hanger Equipment for Fire Protection Service, UL203

Due to the Dura Green finishes organically based composition, it seats itself into porous surfaces more completely and efficiently than zinc coatings. As these porous caverns are filled along the material profile, the outer finished surface demonstrates an increased smooth uniform plane which produces considerably less off-gas when tested.
